A mom in Idaho has been struggling ever since the birth of her eighth baby, particularly upon being diagnosed with a rare blood disorder. One day, she opened the door to find a huge surprise waiting for her, and she broke down.
In February, Alyssa Sale, a mother of eight, was diagnosed with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (AHUS), an extremely rare and life-threatening blood disorder that requires her to have blood infusions every two weeks.
She had just given birth to her eighth child at the time, and started hemorrhaging after the birth. She was also told by doctors that the condition made it impossible for her to have any more children, which she did not have any problems with until her latest baby.
“It wasn’t something we have ever dealt with before,” Sale told InsideEdition. “It can cause blood clots to shut down organs. I had gone into kidney failure … It has been a struggle for our family.”
With her husband running a small business and Sale receiving blood infusions on a fortnightly basis, the medical bills started to pile up.
That was when Secret Santa showed up at her door to present her with a huge surprise—a $10,000 check.
According to East Idaho News, a Secret Santa had asked the media to help him give out $20,000 to “deserving people and families living in east Idaho,” and anyone can nominate others for the Secret Santa surprise.
“This was an absolute surprise,” Sale said. “We have watched these Secret Santa stories for years and have thought they were amazing. I don’t know who nominated us.”
In early December, Santa’s “elves” showed up at her doorstep to present her with the check, which was placed in a tin. Sale burst into tears when she saw it.
“I was absolutely shocked and very overwhelmed,” Sale said. “It’s been a really rough year for our family. When you are sick, in the beginning everybody is there and then the help kind of dies off. This just spoke to the fact that people still care.”
She said that the money would be a huge help to the family, although they had yet to plan what to do with it.
“We’re extremely grateful for the Secret Santa. It’s an amazing thing that they are doing in our area,” she said.
It’s heartening to see people looking out for one another, a big thank you to whoever nominated Sale; it should go a long way.
