Dog ‘runs away’ from home every day after dad’s death—then one day the son plans to follow him

Having spent much time together, a dog grieved for his beloved owner after he passed away. It seemed like the dog couldn’t cope with the loss, and continued to visit his master’s grave every day after the funeral.

Cesur the dog lost his beloved master in January 2017. Having spent two years together as a companion for his owner, 79-year-old Mehmet Ilhan, the loyal dog was left heartbroken. Ilhan had died at a hospital near his home in Bursa, Turkey, after being paralyzed for many years from an illness.

“Because of my father’s paralysis, they had a different kind of connection. When my father was in the hospital during his last days, Cesur stopped eating,” Ilhan’s son, Ali, told The Dodo.

When Ilhan’s body arrived home, the loyal dog was close by and refused to move. He even led the way when a procession formed to carry the coffin to the funeral site. At the funeral, Cesur was seen with his head bowed as he sat by the coffin, and was in this position the entire time.

On Cesur’s behavior, Ali said, “Nobody could touch him until my father was taken to the grave and was buried.” Cesur also witnessed Ilhan being buried.

After Ilhan’s death, Cesur has been living with Ali, but he still thinks of his beloved owner.

Ali began to notice Cesur leaving home after he left for work, and decided to follow him one day. Cesur had been going to the burial site to visit his late master.

“The people who work in the cemetery say the first thing he does in the morning is visit the grave of my father,” Ali said.

Though no one knows when Cesur will ever be able to get over the loss, Ali continues to look after him. “Cesur has always been a noble animal. He will live with me from now on.”
