It all started way back in 2007, when P.Subrahmanyam, now 64, from Hyderabad, India, visited New Zealand to meet his son. Lovingly addressed as Subra by his family, friends, and business clients, this elderly gentleman has always been an early bird—waking up early and going for a healthy jog has been his way of life.
While jogging that day in New Zealand, Subra came across a group of meditators in a beautiful park in Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand.
Speaking to NTDTV, Subra said that the peaceful music and gentle, slow-motion exercises attracted him, but “he hesitated as it was a foreign country.” “So, on the sixth day, I joined the group at the practice site. Then a kind looking lady, who was a Chinese Falun Dafa practitioner, gave me the book Zhuan Falun. This is what changed my whole life.”
The moral principles explained in the book changed his vision and perspective of viewing things. “I am able to handle any difficulty. I have no health issues at all at this day and age—I am 64 now, and will be 65 in October,” Subra said. “The practice helped me in many ways in my personal and business life.”
Zhuan Falun is the main book of Falun Dafa meditation practice (also known as Falun Gong), which is currently being freely practiced in over 44 countries. The founder of the practice, Mr. Li Hongzhi, published the book in 1995, and in just a few years, the book became one of the best sellers and has been translated into 38 languages. Along with five gentle meditation exercises, the moral principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance make the foundation of the practice unique and one-of-a-kind—over 100 million people practice it all around the globe.
Subra said that he began feeling a unique kind of peace and calm in his life that he never experienced before; he was able to tackle his day-to-day life situations better, and was able to enjoy a stress and tension-free life. Having experienced the health benefits firsthand, Subra felt like sharing the meditative exercises to others as well. He introduced the practice to many in his city and places far and wide.
Sharing one of his experiences, he told NTDTV that one fine day, he finally planned to meet the director of the Telangana Police Academy to share the health benefits of the practice.
“I wanted to share this beautiful spiritual meditation system with the police officers of my city. They have such a challenging life style. I wanted to gift them a way to have a stress free life, and to improve their health too,” Subra said.
The director of Telangana State Police Academy, Mr. Jitender, was happy to learn about the practice, and permitted Subra and his friends to hold a training session with the newly recruited police staff. During the first week of May 2017, around 700 female cadets at the Telangana Police Academy attended the free Falun Dafa meditation class with Subra.
Many of the cadets said they experienced a sense of quiet and peace in the meditation. While many of the police trainees said they could feel the energy while doing the standing meditation exercise and were keen on additional follow-up sessions.
“All appreciated the practice and the efforts,” he said.
Subra said that the May session was, however, not the first session with a police academy. He said, earlier in 2011, he along with other practitioners introduced Falun Dafa at the Police Academy and to the traffic police in the state of Andhra Pradesh. They received a certificate of appreciation from the Police Academy.
Falun Dafa has got over 2000 awards of honor and recognition from various governments across the world. But unfortunately, the practice is banned in China, the place of its origin. The persecution of this peaceful meditation began in 1999 in China, and is still continuing. On the orders of former Chinese premier, Jiang Zemin, thousands of Falun Gong practitioners were tortured to death, and hundreds of thousands were in detention at any one time, according to Minghui.org, a website that carries firsthand information about the persecution.
Subra said he will continue his efforts to spread the ancient meditation practice that has changed his life for better, and he will not stop his peaceful mission to make his fellow Indians aware of the illegal persecution that innocent practitioners are undergoing in China.
“I want to present a contrast to the Chinese government that when it is ordering its police and military to beat and kill innocent Falun Dafa practitioners, here in India, police officers are learning the practice, and are willing to make it a part of their lifestyle,” he said.
