These premature twins were born 13 weeks early and weighed only two pounds (just under 1 kg). This is the story of their special bond that shows how twins empathize with each other from the moment they enter this world.
Lily and Grace Johnstone had to be delivered by an emergency Cesarean section in June 2014. When the girls were born, they were very weak and had to be put on ventilators to help them breathe. Unfortunately, Lily had an infection that needed to be treated immediately, and doctors had to separate her from her twin sister for seven weeks.
But when the sisters were finally reunited, something magical happened: the babies immediately grabbed each other’s hand, as if wanting to comfort one another.
For the next two months, as they were treated in hospital, the baby sisters kept snuggling up together.
Fortunately, the twins made a complete recovery and were in a position to be taken home. They are now in good health and still share a special bond.
Recalling the moment, their mother, Hannah Moore, said, “It was such an emotional moment. It was as though they were both reassuring each other that they were going to pull through. It was absolutely amazing to see,” reported Daily Mail.
Not only was the gesture emotional and wonderful to witness, but it’s possible that the closeness that the twins felt helped them survive and thrive in their most difficult moments at birth.
These little angels are now three years old and full of life and zeal.
Hannah Moore said, “The fact that they held hands in hospital throughout their battle for survival just gave each other strength.
“I don’t know if they could have done it without each other.”
“They are inseparable. Even if I just take one to have their nappy changed the other cries until she comes back,” Hannah said.
“They love being together. They are always giggling and smiling at each other. They will be best friends for life,” she said.
We know that twins share a special bond. Some even believe that they can communicate telepathically. Whether fact or fiction, we can never be sure, but none will deny that there is something special about the dynamics between twins!
