Black Rhino Airlifted by Helicopter to New Home

A video surfaced on the internet of a rhino being hoisted high above the ground by a helicopter by its ankles! What is the reason behind this?

As part of the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project, these horned giants were  airlifted from the Eastern Cape to a new home at a 34,000 hectares reserve in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa.

With the aim of expanding black rhino’s territory to increase its critically endangered population, the project was set up in 2003. A partnership between conservation groups including Eastern Cape Parks and WWF.

For the last decades, a population of nine black rhino has been created in South Africa, with more than 140 rhinos successfully relocated. With the cooperation of these kind-hearted people, the population of black rhinos will one day flourish again in the wild.
