When climbing enthusiast “Freesolo” was just 13 years old, he discovered his passion for the physically demanding, adrenaline-pumping sport.
Now, nearly 30 years later, he may have taken his love of climbing things to the most terrifying heights ever.
The 42-year-old daredevil went viral when a self-filmed video was published of him free-sliding down a 260-foot cable, without a harness, using special gloves to prevent burn or chafing and sharing his nearly minute-long descent with the fascinated and terrified fans of his endeavors everywhere.
The cable was attached at the top to a transmission tower, giving audiences a pretty solid perspective on just how high up this guy was when he decided that sliding down nothing but a thin metal cable, without a harness or safety net, was what he wanted to do with his day.
The transmission tower seems to be surrounded on three sides by water, which we suppose is slightly better than concrete.
Still, the descent—as fast and terrifying as it is long and awe-inspiring—could have caused significant damage if something had gone wrong, which was hard to banish from the back of your mind as the high-flying thrill seeker put himself in an incredibly dangerous position.
While many likely think him insane, though, it just goes to show—everyone has their own ways of feeling alive.
