Depressed dad thinks Marine son’s away for Christmas—see his epic reaction when he walks in!

As a single parent, Dad Bryon Honea raised his son Bryce for most of his childhood. The bond between the two is impossible to miss—especially since Bryce went off to serve in the Marine Corps overseas in Afghanistan, while Bryon lives stateside in Illinois.

When it seemed like Bryce may not be able to make it home for the holidays, disappointment was written all over his dad’s face—as this video can attest to. Little did he know, however, that Bryce’s stepmother, Ashley, had been working behind the scenes to make a special Christmas wish come true.

The joy in his father’s face when he sees the surprise homecoming on Christmas is probably the most heartwarming thing you’ll see all day!

Ashley and Bryce worked together for months, figuring out the logistics behind the trans-Atlantic travels that would bring Bryce home for the holidays, while keeping the wool over Bryon’s eyes.

Keeping their plans secret the entire time was no easy feat given how close-knit the family is and how disappointed Bryon had been, thinking his son wasn’t coming home.

“He was shocked because Bryce had told him he wouldn’t be home for Christmas because they were sending him off for more training before he gets deployed,” explained stepmom Ashley.

“We haven’t seen him since last Christmas but he will luckily get to come home this Christmas … we are so very proud of the young man he has become. He has a heart of gold.”

On the day of Bryce’s surprise visit, the family kept Bryon occupied by plying him with other gifts, keeping him comfy by the fireplace, while Bryce snuck in.

Bryon’s reaction when his son walks through the door, though, is absolutely priceless! The proud father leapt up, wrapping his son in a huge embrace when he realized he was actually there.

It couldn’t have been easy to hide the visit for so long—but getting to give such a hardworking father the gift of a lifetime must have been worth it. Check out this amazing reunion in the video!
