Not everyone would appreciate an uninvited guest to crash their big day—but when it’s a stray dog, things could turn out quite differently if the bride or groom is an animal lover.
Matheus and Marília of Sao Paulo, Brazil, had been planning for an outdoor wedding, but a storm changed their plans in September 2017. With no choice, they shifted their wedding ceremony to a tented area, and an uninvited guest walked in.
When the couple’s guests were settling down in their seats, a stray dog walked in to seek shelter from the heavy rain.
The uninvited guest, however, got chased away by the guests.
Little did they know he returned again soon after his first attempt at getting himself in.
“As the ceremony started, to everyone’s surprise, it was the dog who came in when the bridal chorus began to play,” Marília recalled the situation to The Dodo.
But, the dog was chased out once again.
The ceremony continued when the bride, Marília, finally made her grand entrance after the dog had been chased out.
But when the couple were exchanging their vows, the persistent pooch came back again, and this time, he knew where he should go so that he would not be chased away again.
“The dog entered and laid down to sleep on my veil,” Marília recalled.
Being an animal lover, Marília couldn’t bear to chase the dog away and let it stay for the evening. The couple’s family and friends treated the now welcomed stray warmly.
“It was a very pleasant surprise for me, because I love animals. I liked it very much,” she said.
When the ceremony ended, the couple tried looking for the dog, but it had already scampered off.
However, the couple had decided that night that they wanted to adopt the dog and already named it Snoop.
“We decided to adopt him because he is a street dog,” Marília explained.
The couple went out of their way to track down Snoop, and finally their efforts paid off.
“It took us a long time to find him again, but yesterday, we were contacted and told his whereabouts,” Marília said.
The couple later took the dog home.
“He came home, and I showered him,” Marília said. “He played a lot, ate, drank water. He is very happy and slept super good the first night.”
“We’re all very happy,” she added.
The dog definitely would not have imagined that those awkward first three encounters would turn out to be a happy ending for him! Snoop’s persistence paid off!
