Kindhearted people are everywhere. When a waitress in Arizona was serving a customer, they chatted, and she realized that they had a few things in common. Little did she expect that the customer would leave her a heartwarming note and a fairly decent tip.
In December 2016, Sarah Clark, a server and bartender at Pita Jungle near Interstate 17 and Happy Valley Road, was caught off guard when a customer left her a message.
Clark was serving a pregnant customer who had been to the restaurant a few times, and they had chatted about their pregnancies. She was nine months pregnant at that time and was expecting her first child, Rosalie, in January 2017.
When the woman, who was accompanied by her mother, left after picking up a take-out order, Clark noticed that the customer had left a generous tip and a message.
The woman gave her a $900 tip for a $61.30 bill and wrote: “This is God’s money—He gave it to us so we could give it to you. God bless.”
“I couldn’t believe what I was looking at at first because it was such a high amount,” Clark told KPHO. “$900 is a lot of money. It took a while for it to set in, and once it did I cried for a little while.”
“You always hear about these happening, but you never expect to be the recipient of it. It’s a huge, huge help for me and my family,” she added.
Clark will not be getting any paid time off for her pregnancy. Moreover, her partner had a knee surgery, which means that both of them would not be getting any income for a while.
Clark said that she had told the customer about her situation in the past.
“I don’t know if she really understands how much this is going to help us this season,” she said. “Me being on maternity leave and him being out of work, it’s just … we’re not going to be making any income. So this is really going to help with rent and other bills and things like that.”
Having been a Pita Jungle employee for seven years, Clark had come across many generous customers “but nothing to this extent,” she said.
Kudos to the woman who lent her a helping hand! It’s probably a tip Clark won’t forget anytime soon.
