Often, when little boys are asked the question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” they may answer, “A fireman!” Well, this little fella has a head start on them all—he was born at a fire station. Wonder if he will grow up to be a fireman?
Bergandi and Zach Mcelwain from Missouri were expecting their third child, and having been through two labors already, Bergandi felt she had a pretty good grasp of what to expect. The first two babies took between 8 and 12 hours to show themselves, so she figured on at least a couple of hours labor.
Wrong. One hour after her contractions began, the couple left home for the hospital. Bergandi’s water broke just after they drove onto the highway.
They quickly realized they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time. This labor was not panning out as they had expected. The little fella had his own agenda!
“I reached down and I could feel the baby’s head there, and I’m like, ‘We’re not gonna make it, like we’re not,’” Zach said, as reported by Fox2Now.
When they reached the fire station, Zach pounded on the door, and as fate would have it, his friend Andy was on duty. Zach breathlessly explained the situation, and the group knew exactly what to do.
Zach delivered his son with the help of the firemen. The umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck, but they were able to untangle him. When paramedics arrived, the baby had already been delivered!
Bergandi said she has the feeling this little one is going to be a handful.
“We think he’s going to be fast and furious and I already have a couple of those at home, so I was planning on this to be my calm and collected and sobering child, but I have a feeling he might not be that,” she laughingly said.
